The Rich History Behind Shaker Cabinets
In the 18th century, the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, more commonly known as the Shakers, immigrated to America from the United Kingdom. The Shakers were known for living simply and for high-quality furniture and architecture as well as innovative technology.

Amp Up Your Shaker Cabinets
While shaker cabinets are traditional and simple, they are also extremely versatile. Shaker cabinets can add beauty to your home, no matter the design or décor of your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc. This allows you to adjust the cabinets in many ways, fitting your design style. Here are a few distinctive ways to add your style to shaker cabinets:
Punch Up the Color
Painting shaker cabinets will add personality and transform the room. Whether it's a deep and moody green or a light and bright pastel, your cabinets will feel modern yet timeless. Painted cabinetry can liven up a room, and make a big difference when adjusting the theme or color scheme of a home.
Utilize Unique Hardware
While the Shaker community was known for its simplistic designs, you can upgrade your hardware. Just like accessories with your clothing, the metal mechanics of the cabinets can go a long way for your aesthetic. From knurled pulls to brass finishes to European hinges, the sky's the limit!
Insert Glass Fronts
Bump up your shaker cabinets' style with glass-fronts and mullion molding. Not only do these give an elegant touch, but can be a useful medium between visible and concealed cabinetry. Your options range from clear to frosted with a range of colors.
Swap in Beadboard Panels
Add texture and warmth with beadboard inserts in your shaker cabinets. If you love modern farmhouse style, beadboard will give your cabinets that homey feel.
Conceal Major Appliances
Give your home a high-end look by adding shaker panels to appliances like your refrigerator and dishwasher. There’s just something ever so chic about a fridge that perfectly matches your cabinetry. On paper, it seems almost overdone; but when installed tastefully, it can look astounding. This seamless layout can utilize any of the above styles for a truly unique design!
